Following in Spotify’s footsteps, Amazon Music is now introducing its own AI playlist generator called Maestro. This feature allows U.S. customers on both iOS and Android platforms to create playlists using spoken or written prompts, including emojis.
Amazon suggests users can write prompts containing activities, sounds, emotions, or choose from prompt suggestions provided on the screen. Within seconds, an AI-generated playlist tailored to the input will be created.
As Maestro launches in beta, Amazon cautions that the technology may not always produce accurate results initially. Similar to Spotify, Amazon has implemented measures to block offensive language and inappropriate prompts.
Initially, Maestro is available to a subset of free Amazon Music users, Prime customers, and Unlimited Amazon Music subscribers in the U.S. Subscribers gain additional functionality such as instant playlist listening and saving, while Prime members and ad-supported users can only listen to 30-second previews before saving.
To access Maestro, users need the latest Amazon Music mobile app version. They can find the Maestro option on their home screen or while creating a new playlist. After inputting their playlist prompt, users can start streaming immediately or save and share the playlist.
Amazon suggests various prompts like “😭 and eating 🍝,” “Make my 👶 a genius,” “Myspace era hip-hop,” “🏜️🌵🤠,” “Music my grandparents made out to,” “🎤🚿🧼,” and “I tracked my friends and they’re all hanging out without me.” These examples showcase the playful nature of Maestro’s prompts.
While Amazon hasn’t specified a broader rollout timeline, it plans to expand Maestro to more customers gradually.
